Telemedicine Guidelines: How to Access Your Appointment

At Rooted Health Collective, we are pleased to offer convenient telemedicine appointments for a wide range of healthcare needs. Telemedicine allows you to meet with our providers from the comfort of your home, saving you time and making healthcare more accessible.

1. What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is the delivery of healthcare services remotely via video, phone, or messaging platforms. It allows you to have consultations with your healthcare provider without needing to visit the clinic in person. During a telemedicine appointment, you can discuss your symptoms, ask questions, receive medical advice, and follow-up on any ongoing health issues.

2. How to Schedule a Telemedicine Appointment

Scheduling a telemedicine appointment is easy:


  • Step 1: Visit our Online Appointment Scheduler to book your appointment, or call our office at 954-751-4900.
     
  • Step 2: Select "Telemedicine Appointment" when choosing the type of appointment.
     
  • Step 3: Choose a date and time that works for you and provide any necessary details about your health concern.
     
  • Step 4: You will receive a confirmation email or SMS with a link to your telemedicine appointment.

3. How to Prepare for Your Telemedicine Appointment

To ensure your telemedicine appointment runs smoothly, please take the following steps:


A. Check Your Technology


Device: You can join your telemedicine appointment from a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Ensure your device has a working camera and microphone.


 Internet Connection: Make sure you have a stable internet connection. A Wi-Fi connection is preferred for better video quality.


Platform: You will receive an invitation with instructions for connecting to the platform we use (e.g., Zoom, Telehealth software, or our secure portal). Please test the link ahead of time to make sure everything is working.


B. Create a Quiet, Private Space


 Environment: Find a quiet, well-lit space for your appointment where you can be free from distractions. Make sure the background is neutral and there are no interruptions during your call.


Privacy: Your consultation will be private and confidential. Please ensure you're in a private setting where others cannot overhear your discussion.


C. Gather Your Medical Information


Before your appointment, please have the following information ready:


Medical History: Details about your past medical conditions, surgeries, or treatments.


Medications: A list of any medications you are currently taking, including dosages.


Symptoms: A brief description of your symptoms or health concerns. If you have any specific questions, write them down ahead of time so you don’t forget.


Previous Test Results: If you’re following up on previous tests or treatments, have any related results available to share with your doctor.

4. What to Expect During Your Telemedicine Appointment

  • Virtual Consultation: Once your appointment begins, you’ll be able to see and speak with your healthcare provider via video or phone call. The provider will ask about your symptoms, medical history, and any other relevant information.
     
  • Diagnosis & Treatment: After discussing your concerns, your provider will offer advice, treatment options, and, if necessary, prescribe medication or request follow-up appointments.
     
  • Privacy & Security: All telemedicine appointments are conducted through secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms to ensure the privacy of your health information.

5. How to Join Your Telemedicine Appointment

  • Step 1: Check your email or text message for the link to join your appointment.
     
  • Step 2: At the scheduled time, click the link provided in your confirmation message. This will take you to the virtual waiting room.
     
  • Step 3: Once your provider is ready, you’ll be admitted to the session. If your appointment is by phone, your provider will call you at the scheduled time.

6. Troubleshooting Tips

If you experience technical issues, here are some common solutions:

  • Video/Audio Issues: Ensure your device’s camera and microphone are enabled. If using a smartphone, check that you’ve granted permission for the app to access your camera and microphone.
     
  • Connection Problems: If your connection is unstable, try moving closer to your Wi-Fi router or switching to a stronger internet connection.
     
  • Platform Issues: If you're having trouble with the platform itself (e.g., Zoom or another telemedicine software), try restarting your device or updating the software.

7. After the Appointment

  • Follow-Up: After your telemedicine appointment, your provider may recommend a follow-up appointment, lab tests, or further treatment. These can usually be scheduled online or by calling our office.
     
  • Prescription Refills: If you require prescription refills, your provider will send the prescription to your pharmacy electronically.
     
  • Health Records: You can view a summary of your telemedicine visit, any prescriptions, and treatment plans through your Patient Portal.

8. Telemedicine Appointment Fees

  • Insurance: Most insurance companies cover telemedicine appointments, but we encourage you to check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage.
     
  • Self-Pay: If you are paying out-of-pocket, the cost of a telemedicine appointment is the same as an in-person visit. For pricing details, please refer to our Insurance & Payment Information page

9. When Not to Use Telemedicine

Telemedicine is perfect for non-emergency health concerns, but there are times when an in-person visit may be required:

  • Emergency situations: If you are experiencing severe symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or uncontrollable bleeding, please go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 immediately.
     
  • Physical exams: Some health conditions, such as injuries or certain tests, may require an in-person visit.
